Nothing Comes Close to the Beauty of Live Edge Furniture

As a furniture designer and builder, very few things bring me more joy than seeing a beautiful slab of a tree transformed into a work of art. Recently we have been doing a number of projects for homes around the country and folks are starting to catch on to the live edge movement. The most common question that people have is, "how much does something like that cost?" The answer depends on the species of wood, the length and width of the piece needed. The level of finish also factors into the cost as well.

Look to pay anywhere between $500 and $1500 for a 6ft Oak finished piece or $1000 to $5000 for a more exotic wood. At first glance the prices might seem a little expensive, but realize that a in the hands of a true craftsman, the slab has to undergo a number of steps before it becomes a useable surface in your home. Make sure that the wood is properly dried to be sure that the moisture content is low enough to keep warping and splintering from occuring. Realize that you are talking about a living tree, so expect that there could be some splintering and cracking as the piece adjusts to the climate of your space.
